Hughes Bags More Consistent Points At Thruxton
After 6 rounds into the championship, Hughes has had 6 top 10 finishes which consist of a 2nd, a 3rd, two 4ths and a 9th which sits Alice in a comfortable 2nd place overall.
Hughes took to the Hampshire circuit on Friday (2/6) and had two test sessions where she was immediately on the pace and it enabled the team to record a lot of data which assisted for the race weekend.
Hughes mentions: “Qualifying was fairly challenging. The new engine was still bedding in and with Thruxton being the fastest circuit in the UK, we were lacking a bit of straight line speed but managed to bag a respectable 11th place on a 32 car grid.”
After making some slight alterations to the tracking and the shockers, the car was improving lap upon lap and Hughes made some fantastic overtakes to jump up to 5th place. The conditions were perfect and there was plenty of grip allowing Alice to make her way up through the pack. Due to a disastrous accident between the 4 front running cars, Stuart Coombs came off the worst resulting in finishing the race on his roof on Woodham Hill. This brought the race to an early conclusion meaning the race was taken back a lap and Hughes got demoted back down to 7th place.
Sunday saw Hughes sat Pole for the start of the race which gave the team a lot of confidence. After another quick start, Alice was running in the lead pack and was setting consistent lap times; a whole 2 seconds quicker than her qualifying times. Hughes finished the race 0.1 seconds off of the podium.
The next round of the championship is at Brands Hatch which is a track Hughes knows well and will be looking for another podium finish.
