Hughes Makes a Marvellous return to Mighty Minis.
What a weekend!
After Hughes qualified on pole position for race 1, she then went and backed this up with two podium finishes in the first round of the Mighty Mini Championship. Alice hadn’t raced her Mighty Mini in over a year so to come out and use qualifying as testing and be straight up to the top was an incredible achievement.
Hughes bagged P1 with team mate, Sarah Moore, a mere 0.049s behind sat in P2.
Race 1 was super exciting. Every lap there was a different leader. Hughes, Moore, Harrington, Glover and Coombs all lead the race for short periods of time however it was very difficult staying in the lead as minis just drafted straight passed the leading car. Coming down club straight for the final time, Harrington leading with Hughes second, Harrington took a tight line with Hughes on the outside line. This then allowed Hughes to capitalise and went for the slingshot move into luffied. The move however, didn’t happen but fortunately for Hughes, did close the leading gap. Exiting luffied bumper to bumper, Hughes got into Harrington’s draft through woodcote and the two cars battled down the pit straight, going over the finishing line side by side, Harrington the leader by just 0.059s.
Race 2 was just as exciting only this time with Moore in the mix. Harrington managed to bag P1, Moore P2 and Hughes P3.
“Both Sarah and myself have shown great pace this weekend which I’m sure will roll on over to the next round at Anglesey. It gives us a major platform to promote not only the Agouti team, but The Children’s Air Ambulance too. This amazing charity receives no government funding so between us, we’re doing our best to help this fantastic cause.
I’m delighted to be leaving Silverstone with 2x podiums, 2x fastest laps and a pole position. I’m aiming for some more good consistent points in Round 2.
Huge thank you to Alan and the team from Ball Trucking Atherstone for allowing us to use your artic, Collin French (Shine Automotive) & Steve Hughes for being top class mechanics and Marc Waller for the photographs.”
